What is Five-Fold Ministry?

At the River we work as a team, with each person anointed by the Holy Spirit is empowered to take part in Jesus’ ministry, serving people in need with the Gifts of the Spirit.

The Five-fold ministries are described in Luke 4 and Ephesians 4.

Luke 4:18–19 (NAS) Jesus read, “The Spirit of the lord is upon me, because He anointed me to bring good news to the poor.  he has sent me to proclaim release to captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”

 Ephesians 4:11–13 (NIV) “He [Jesus] gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

Jesus’ model of church ministry is not about titles.

This is about functions, serving one another, seeking to honor the LORD and demonstrate the power of His Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven.

We believe that the same Spirit is active today as when Jesus was alive, working through his people to fulfill the mission of Christ - Built on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets that continue to function today.
