Paul is the Senior Pastor at The River. Paul is married to Ashley, who is the mayor of Fresno. Together they walk out their family call to make a difference in Fresno with their daughter Sydney and son Samuel. Paul’s father, Dan was a long time pastor in the Assemblies of God and is now retired and lives in Southern California with Paul’s mother, Donna. Paul is the youngest of three boys in his family, with older brother Randy who lives in Olathe, KS and Terry who lives in Riverside County, CA. Paul’s father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Ruth Ann Newton, also serve as pastors.
Paul is the son of a pastor and was called to be a pastor, himself, at an early age. However, God first placed Paul in the arena of broadcasting, beginning as a TV and Radio sportscaster in many different areas, including four years as a sports anchor/reporter for KSEE-24 in Fresno. Paul also says he earned his “Life-MBA” serving as Marketing Director for Santé’ Health System in Fresno. Paul led a team that purchased 1430 ESPN Radio in Fresno (KFIG-AM) and served as a sportstalk show host for a decade and says he served as the station’s “General Manager, Accountant and Janitor”. Having served, with wife Ashley, as a lay-minister for many years, God finally completed drawing Paul into his call as Ministry Staff Leadership in 2008.
Paul earned a BA in Broadcast Communications from California State University, Fresno in 1985 and earned his theological training in the Vineyard Leadership Institute completing his degree in 2007. Paul was ordained as a minster by the Vineyard Association of Churches in 2007 and was ordained and licensed by The River Revival Network in 2008.
