Jeffrey DeVous

Born in rural southern Illinois, Jeffrey always knew he had a call on his life to do great things, after all, he was born on President Lincoln’s birthday. Jeffrey grew up in church and could often be found on the front row while his parents led worship. Just before his 13th birthday, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. As with most things in his life, Jeffrey took his diagnosis in stride, wowing the head of the oncology department with his happy and positive outlook on life. Just after his 21st birthday he was declared completely cured of cancer.

During his college years, he found himself in at a church in Nashville, Tennessee listening to a man named Bill Johnson. By the end of the first night, Jeffrey knew that he wanted to move to Redding, CA to learn more. At that time he had no idea Bethel even had a school of ministry, he simply knew he had to be a part of what they were doing.

Jeffrey studied at Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry from 2009 until 2012. It was at Bethel, with his 10 roommates that Jeffrey discovered the true passion of his heart, grace and identity. Jeffrey and Hannah, his highschool sweetheart, were married on a crisp fall Saturday in October of 2012. The next day they left to travel to their new home, a mere 1,720.2 miles from Illinois, Fresno, California.

Jeffrey joined River Ministries in the fall of 2012 as an intern. Jeffrey now leads Axiom, The River’s youth group, as well as being in charge of Facilities at The River. He and Hannah also serve on the Core Team.

Jeffrey and Hannah are proud to call Fresno their home and agree with Jeffrey’s grandpa Bob that, “California is the most beautiful place you’ll ever see.” When Jeffrey isn’t doing outreach or ministry you can find him watching ESPN, reading sports articles and practicing his whistling.
